Expanding Children's Rough and Tumble Play Webinar Series (all three sessions)

We can either try to stop children engaging in rough and tumble play or we can stop and unpack what it is and why they are doing it. During rough and tumble play children are smiling and laughing because this kind of play for them is fun! Rough and tumble play is a basic human instinct that helps to develop such skills as strength, movement, body awareness, and socializing.

Session 1 - May 26, 2022
Participants will have an opportunity to explore and reflect upon the research and resources and connect with others to share their understanding of the principles of children’s rough and tumble play as well as study the associated stereotypes and misconceptions.

Session 2 - June 9, 2022
Building upon the principles of children’s rough and tumble play, participants will have opportunities to consider the impact of incorporating rough and tumble play into their program. There will be opportunities to explore materials, items, props, and environments to support children’s learning, for all ages, along with the links to How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years.

Session 3 - June 23, 2022
The final session in the series will put into practice the principles and knowledge gained in sessions 1 and 2. Participants will engage in conversations about incorporating rough and tumble play experiences while considering the benefits, developmental skills, and documenting to share with families.

All sessions take place from 6:30 to 9:00 pm.

Webinar - Understanding and Supporting Anxiety in Children, with the CTRI

Childhood is a critical time for emotional and psychological development. During these stages, anxiety patterns can begin that continue into adulthood. Anxiety represents our body’s natural alarm system, signaling the possibility of danger. When this response arises too frequently or intensely and doesn’t match actual situations of danger, it can interfere with life and cause great distress. Having caregivers who are equipped to support and teach children and youth skills for managing and interrupting their anxiety patterns is crucial for early intervention. This workshop will provide a structure for understanding how anxiety works in the nervous system. Participants will also learn a diverse range of skills that can be taught and practiced with children. These skills are designed to decrease anxiety and expand the capacity for managing emotions and anxious thought patterns.
