Family-centered Early Childhood Education & Care is a three-part series designed for early learning professionals to explore critical pedagogical approaches through the lens of placing families at the center of practice. The series focuses on taking a wraparound approach, integrating responsive relationships, the environment as the third teacher, pedagogical documentation, co-educators, and collaborative inquiry to create inclusive, supportive learning experiences. Through this series, participants will gain tools to engage families effectively and cultivate intentional, reflective practices that strengthen family partnerships and enhance children's learning.

Part 1: Responsive Relationships and Environment as Third Teacher; February 17, 2026
In this session, we will explore how building responsive relationships with children, families, and the community lays the foundation for learning. We will also examine how the physical environment functions as the third teacher, fostering engagement, creativity, and a sense of belonging.

Part 2: Pedagogical Documentation and Co-Educators with Families; March 24, 2026
This session will focus on the role of pedagogical documentation in capturing and reflecting families’ learning journeys, as well as how it can deepen educator-family partnerships. We will discuss the value of viewing families as co-educators, creating a shared learning experience that includes both the home and the early learning environment.

Part 3: Collaborative Inquiry and Reflection, Learning Through Play, Exploration, and Inquiry; April 28, 2026
The final session highlights the importance of reflective practice and collaborative inquiry in shaping responsive early childhood education. We will explore how learning through play, exploration, and inquiry can be a shared experience, and how continuous reflection supports both professional growth and family engagement.
