Responsibilities
1. Implement and practice the expectations of the College of Early Childhood (CECE) Educators Codes of Ethics and Standards of Practice July 2017, which include the following Codes of Ethics: A) Responsibilities to Children, B) Responsibilities to Families, C) Responsibilities to Colleagues and to the Profession. Also includes the following Standards: I) Caring and Responsive Relationships, II) Curriculum and Pedagogy, III) Safety, Health and Well-Being in the Learning Environment, IV) Professionalism and Leadership, V) Professional Boundaries, Dual Relationships and Conflicts of Interest.
2. Plan and implement developmentally appropriate educational programs for children addressing all ages of development in terms of emotional, social, and intellectual needs, and cognitive, physical, speech, and language abilities including musical, dramatic, and creative activities while focusing on foundations of belonging, well-being, engagement and expression.
3. Complete Reflective Program Plans which include domains, interactions, actual happenings, observations and reflection of child and educator learning.
4. Provide learning environments where educators act as co-learners and facilitators to children’s learning by planning for play opportunities to explore, investigate and nurture authentic relationships through adult-supported provocations/invitations and children initiated interests.
5. The environment will be considered as the 3rd teacher where play space will contain complex and open ended materials that support children’s autonomy and independence.
6. Complete pedagogical documentation of children in both individual and group formats.
7. Work together with families and communities toward goals for children’s learning, development, health and well- being.
8. Build and maintain relationships with children, families, colleagues and early year’s partners.
9. Work in collaboration with partners to support an integrated early year’s system, providing a wide range of supports for child children with developmental (or recognized) needs and their families.
10. Screen all children using the DISC Preschool Screen and/or designate tools that assists in identifying children who may be at risk of special needs. Through observation, Early Childhood Educators work in collaboration with Resource Consultants and Community Support Agencies (i.e. case conferences in order to plan for and implement individual program plans). This involves using the Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale.
11. Maintain an environment that is safe, nurturing, and conducive to child development.
12. Complete visual health and safety inspections of the environment on a regular basis.
13. Maintain working knowledge of relevant legislation, Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, Regional Policies and Procedures, and keeps abreast of changes to these regulations/standards.
14. Participate in training sessions to enhance professional practices and actively participate in the CECE Continuous Professional Learning.
15. Prepare and attend parent/teacher events.
16. Participate in committees as required.
17. Act as a mentor/role model for students from educational facilities.
18. Work in conjunction with Field Placement Coordinators to evaluate student placements.
19. Read individual children’s files to keep informed of any pertinent information and family background relating to the child.
20. May be required to stay after 6:00 p.m. if a parent fails to pick up child by closing time, and follow procedures in policy manual accordingly.
21. Open and close the child care centre. Keep exits and entrances free of snow or other play equipment as necessary.
22. Accurately record attendance daily.
23. Carry out daily routines such as toileting and serving snacks and lunches for all children, and direct children in the general tidiness of the playroom and housekeeping in all areas.
24. Completed required documentation pertaining to the requirements of the CCEYA or Children’s Services protocol such as, but not limited to: sleep supervision logs, children’s accident reports, attendance records, daily log, medication authorization form, observations of children’s wellbeing form.
25. Ensure adequate sanitary and housekeeping standards are maintained and perform laundry and other housekeeping duties
26. Perform administrative duties such as answering phones and checking daily log. Documents messages and record parent inquiries
27. Complete an inventory of supplies.

Job Summary
Responsible to build caring and responsive relationships with children, families and colleagues. Will draw on their professional knowledge of child development, learning theories and pedagogical and curriculum approaches to plan, implement, document and assess child-centered, inquiry and play-based learning experiences for children between 0 to 12 years of age. Will create and maintain a child care environment that support children’s play and learning as well as contribute to a sense of belonging and overall well-being. Ensure compliance with Regional, Children’s Services policies, Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 (CCEYA) Legislation and regulations and the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE).

Education
• Completion of a 2 year college program, with a diploma in Early Childhood Education or recognition of equivalency through the College of Early Childhood Educators registration.
• Completion of the Quality Child Care Niagara Reflective Practice Institutes which includes training in: Environmental Rating Scales, D.P.S. (Developmental Preschool Screen), referral process for speech/language and behavioural supports, the “How Does Learning Happen?” framework: Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years, ELECT (Early Learning for Every Child Today) and other training developed in this initiative.

Knowledge
• Over 6 months of experience in child development and licensed child care. Working knowledge of research based best practice methods, principles and practices in Early Childhood Education.
• Proficient knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 and Regulations and changes in legislation and policies.
• Proficient knowledge of the CECE Codes of Ethics and Standards of Practice July 2017.
• Demonstrated experience in effectively working with a diverse groups of individuals.
• Current knowledge regarding child development.
• Individuals who are fluent in French (both written and verbal) and in additional languages (e.g. French, Spanish, etc.) beyond English, which are spoken within a significant proportion of the population in the local community and in the opinion of the Corporation could enhance service is an asset.
• Current Safe Food Handlers Certification an asset.

• Demonstrated ability to work as a team member with other professionals.
• Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications (internet, email, MS word, IPad).
• Ability to implement legislation and regulations required for licensing requirements.
• Ability to document child interactions/learnings, identify developmental milestones and reflect.
• Human relations skills to establish, develop, and maintain positive relationships with families and colleagues.
• Excellent verbal and written communication. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain factual, concise and objective documentation.

Special Conditions
• In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records Check and submit a Canadian Police Clearance Certificate, including a vulnerable sector search. The VSC must be prepared no earlier than 6 months before hire, and every five years thereafter; also must complete an annual “Offence Declaration.”
• Must be a Registered Early Childhood Educator in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario and actively participating in CPL (Continuous Professional Learning).
• Must maintain a valid Standard First Aid, and Infant & Child Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate. Must meet and maintain requirements in the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014; health assessment and proof of current records of immunizations as recommended by the Medical Officer of Health.
